Our next stop was Alvin's Grave. Alvin is Joseph Smith's brother. He died from an illness at the age of 25. It was this loss that eventually inspired Joseph Smith to pray to the Lord and ask Him what happens to those souls who die without a knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In response to Joseph's prayer the Lord revealed the principle of Baptism for the dead. A soul is not lost due to an untimely death. Their baptismal work can still be performed and their soul can be saved.

My poor tired kiddos. Kade literally laid down wherever we were and tried to nap.
This was a sign near the graveyard. The school was no longer there but it's an interesting tid bit of local history.
